Fashion Photography

1)   When is an image a Portrait? When is it a fashion photograph? Are the two the Same?

A portrait is more focused on the face and what the person emotions are whilst a fashion photo is focused on the clothes and the accessories not the actual person or their personality.

2) To what degree should an image manipulated to go into a fashion magazine?

The degree of manipulation should only be the background and the lighting or lighting affects. It should not be used to change a person features to make them look perfect because as it is tampering with that person identity. That person should be left alone, what we look like is what we look like and  no one should be able to change our  features. On the other side of the argument  fashion is all about the best look and food company's do edit there photo's .This makes the food look delicious and this is what fashion is doing but with people. Personally I think it is wrong as it is changing  human beings to look as good as possible and our looks should not be changed.

3) is there a clash between the creative and commercial side of fashion Photography?

There is a clear clash between commercial and creative. creative wants fashion to be like art, they want the best photos and best looking dresses and accessories. The commercial do want the product to look great but they want it to appeal to there target audience. They choose what they think bests appeals to there target audience. The creative side do fight for there photos and dress to be either shown in the next magazine or the next dress design. Commercial win this battle as they have the power to say what goes or stays. The creative do try and reason with the commercial but in the end the commercial side  have the final say. So this proves that commercial does win the battle between commercial and creative.
